Kill Jackie Review: Directed by Dawn Shadforth, Damon Thomas and Sophie Muller and based on Aidan Truhen’s novel The Price You Pay, the AMC+ and Prime Video series stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as Jackie Price, with Daniel Ings as Sam, Sidse Babett Knudsen as Karenina, Christine Adams as The Doc, Raff Law as Sean Harper, Julian Rhind-Tutt as Friedrich and Enzo Cilenti as Don Markel. The series has eight episodes, each with a runtime of 60 minutes.

Kill Jackie Review

Jackie Price has spent approximately two decades building a comfortable identity in the art scene following a violent life of crime she left behind. She has got everything: the money, contacts and the well-organised life that falls apart when she realises that someone decided to hire Seven Demons – a group of assassins – to kill her. It soon becomes clear to Jackie that being on the run is not going to work, particularly when everyone around her starts getting targeted.

She will have to rely on her instincts and find out who is out to get her and how to survive the attack. The twist lies in the fact that Jackie is not running away from assassins; she understands their world well since she used to live like that before. One thing that I enjoyed most about the Prime Video series Kill Jackie was the fact that it was actually Jackie that made me interested in finding out what happens next. It is quite interesting to watch someone who has tried so hard to live a quiet life transform into the person that they have tried to leave behind.

Catherine Zeta-Jones brings the conflict to light in such a great way. Jackie doesn’t need to raise her voice in order to demonstrate that she always knows what she is doing. Even when she is trapped and surrounded by danger, she always has a strategy going on in her head. The fact that she remains calm and cool means that when she actually uses her old abilities, it becomes even more exciting.

Prime Video’s Kill Jackie also has fun with the fact that Jackie does not have all of this madness to herself. The involvement of Sam in her dangerous life grows over time, and it was funny how his relationship with Jackie evolves, especially after he finds himself in a very unfamiliar place. It is not in his nature to be able to function in such a violent environment like Jackie, and this is what makes some of the jokes in this series amusing. Yet at times I found this same nervous comedy of Sam quite repetitive because sometimes it feels like he only exists there in order to be afraid of everything that surrounds him.

Karenina proves a lot more intriguing since she presents a completely different kind of conflict. Not just another problem which lies in the way of survival, her presence amidst the Seven Demons adds an uncomfortable personal edge to the danger, especially considering the fact that Jackie is well aware of their lethal nature. In addition to that, Sidse Babett Knudsen infuses a quirky personality into her character, which works in harmony with the series’ black humour. The same applies to some other assassins and minor characters as well.

The aspect of the 2026 series Kill Jackie that fails to convince me is the manner in which the series deals with pacing. The premise allows for a great deal of movement, but the series does not seem willing to take advantage of that. It was fine with me that the series started off slowly because I got the sense that it needed to do so in order to get Jackie settled into his new life. The issue lies in the fact that even once the primary conflict has been established, there are times when it takes an unnecessary route.

This only becomes more maddening considering that the action scenes demonstrate how powerful the series would be if it just stuck to its central idea. The shootouts, ambushes, and chase scenes are full of that pulpy vigour, and you get the sense that the show loves to blend violence and dark comedy together. I especially enjoyed some of Jackie’s preparation for combat. She isn’t portrayed as someone who just stands around waiting for the assassins to show up. She knows they’re coming, and she tries to use her resources to stay ahead of the game. It makes her feel less like an heiress discovering martial arts and more like a woman with a background in this kind of thing.

Another thing that I enjoyed about the AMC+ series Kill Jackie was the way in which it unfolds bits and pieces from Jackie’s past in an unobtrusive way. With each new episode, we receive a little bit more information about who she was as a person, which made me understand why she is so adamant about preserving her new lifestyle. On the other hand, sometimes it seemed to me that the plot got too twisted. The bigger the net of relationships and motives became, the harder it became for me to remain emotionally engaged with every new turn.

Prime Video Kill Jackie Review: Summing Up

Overall, the 2026 Kill Jackie series is an enjoyable thriller that has solid acting in the main role, great action and an intriguing protagonist, yet its structure and unnecessary deviations do not allow it to become the well-composed revenge saga it might have been. Apart from the assassins, gunfire and black comedy, the show hides an intriguing plot about a person that has to face the personality he or she believed to have escaped from. With the help of Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jackie gets enough charisma and intrigue to keep people interested in the series, which makes it much more entertaining whenever the plot returns to her.
