Exciting Korean Movies Releasing in March 2025

The Match (승부)

Ever been addicted to a tale where friendship blossoms into rivalry? That’s precisely what The Match appears set to serve. Releasing in South Korean cinemas on March 26, 2025, this drama features two superstars of Korean cinema—Lee Byung-hun and Yoo Ah-in—in a compelling story of mentorship, ambition, and treachery. Directed by Kim Hyung-joo and written by Yoon Jong-bin, the movie is about the life of professional Go, an old Korean board game that is complicated.

The film is based in the 1980s and 1990s and centers on Cho Hun-hyun, a renowned Go master who stumbles upon a young player named Lee Chang-ho. Cho sponsors the boy, teaching him how to be a champion. But as Lee’s talent improves, so does his ambition—initiating a competitive rivalry that teeters on toppling the rapport between mentor and pupil. From a cast which also features Kim Kang-hoon, Ko Chang-seok, and Moon Jeong-hee, The Match is turning into something greater than a sports film. It’s an exploration into human ambition and pride, as well as the agonizing cost of achievement.

Interestingly, The Match was originally going to have a direct release on Netflix. Owing to repeated delays, however, the distribution strategy has now shifted. The movie will instead first release in South Korean theatres, and then later go on a Netflix release, though the streaming release date is still not fixed.

Streaming (스트리밍)

If you’re a fan of crime thrillers that marry technology with reality-based danger, Streaming is going to be worth your attention. Set to hit theaters on March 21, 2025, the film is written and directed by Jo Jang-ho and promises to be an edge-of-your-seat commentary on the dark side of internet fame.

The movie features Kang Ha-neul as Woo Sang, a confident online streamer who has become an enormous hit by analysing crime cases for his fans. However, Woo Sang’s show takes a dark turn when he starts live-streaming his own investigation of a series of cold cases. As the boundaries between entertainment and actual risk begin to blur, Woo Sang is drawn deeper into a mystery that might cost him everything.

With a capable supporting cast headed by Han Sung-yun, Choo Suk-young, and Hwang Dae-woong, Streaming is not simply another crime thriller. It’s a smart commentary on the compulsion of going viral on the internet and the very real consequences of smudging the boundaries between content and reality.

Revelations (계시록)

Prepare yourself for a thriller that will put your perspectives on faith, justice, and morality to the test. To be released on March 21, 2025 on Netflix, Revelations is directed by visionary filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho, writer of Train to Busan, with a script by Choi Gyu-seok. Based on a hit webtoon, this film promises a dark, thought-provoking experience.

Ryu Jun-yeol heads the cast as Min Chan, a rural pastor committed to his religion and to his people. His life is upended when Yang Rae (Shin Min-jae), a former convict, appears in his church. Although Min Chan at first thinks in terms of forgiving her, his convictions are put to the test when he gets what he believes is a message from God: Yang Rae is the man who kidnapped his son.

The story deepens with Shin Hyun-been as detective Yeon Hui, still tormented by her sister’s murder. As she delves deeper into the case of the missing child, suspicion grows, and the boundary between justice and vengeance starts to blur. Revelations appears to delve into heavy questions with no simple answers—ideal for those who enjoy thrillers with psychological complexity.

Somebody (침범)

Wrapping up the month is Somebody, a chilling psychological thriller that will be released on March 12, 2025. The movie was first screened at Busan Film Festival in October 2024 and now finally it is hitting the cinemas. Written and directed by Kim Yeo-jeong and Lee Jeong-chan, the movie seems to examine the lasting effect of trauma through a brooding tale that is sure to leave an indelible mark.

The film tracks Yeong Eun (Kwak Sun-young), a swimming coach who is having trouble raising her daughter, So Hyun (Gi So-yoo), whose violent outbursts are on the verge of getting out of hand. Twenty years later, the action shifts to Min (Kwon Yu-ri) and Hae Yeong (Lee Seol), two women who share a home while working on cases of single deaths.
